Custom Fallout Weapon - Laser Rifle

This is my custom weapon in Fallout New Vegas, a rapid fire laser shotgun, the lore for the AER10 Laser Rifle was made up by me and may differ quite widely from canon information on the AER10 if such information is ever revealed in a future Fallout game.

A modified AER10 laser rifle, this weapon was created by my Fallout OC, Christine Lyons, from various bits of technology and through quite a bit of experimentation.

Like all AER10 rifles, the laser is produced through a neodymium-doped yttrium aluminum garnet (Nd:YAG) crystal array -With an emissive wavelength of 946 nanometers (nm) and a second harmonic generation (SHG) of 473 nm- housed within a protective titanium case, unlike a normal AER10 however, this rifle has been outfitted with an array of focusing lenses spanning most of the length of the body, keeping the beam concentrated until it reaches the prism array at the front.

The outer shell of the weapon has also been replaced, the normal casing having been replaced with a lightweight aluminum one; furthermore, whereas a normal AER10 (like most laser rifles) is powered by Microfusion Cells (MFC), Christine's rifle has been modified to instead run on Electron Charge Packs (ECP) a change which when combined with alterations to the firing mechanism allow this weapon to fire in a semi-automatic fashion.

The final, major, modification brought to the rifle is an array of prisms and mirrors which split the concentrated beam into nine weaker beams, allowing it to hit multiple targets in a wide cone in front of the user, the change to the front of the rifle has however required Christine to remove the weapon's carry handle, making it similar to the much more cruder "Tri-Beam Laser" rifles popular amongst groups such as the Brotherhood of Steel or the dangerous gang known as The Fiends.
